Hastings women bellydance their way to weight loss!
29th December 2009
Hastings women are being invited to see how the ancient art of bellydancing can help them lose weight, get fit and feel better about their bodies. During January, Hastings resident, Chloe Dent, who teaches weekly classes at the William Parker Sports College, is offering a free bellydance class to anyone who brings along a copy of the Hastings Observer or Ad News.
Bellydancing is acknowledged to have highly beneficial effects on both mind and body. Many students at Chloe’s classes have lost weight and most say their shape has changed for the better.
Melanie from Hastings has lost seven stone since starting Chloe’s bellydance classes eight months ago. She followed a diet too, but says that bellydancing has really made the difference.
Melanie says:
I had been struggling with my weight for a while, but when I started to bellydance, it started to come off much faster. I loved it so much, I would dance around the kitchen throughout the week and I think that really helped lift my metabolism.
I hated going to the gym she says: it’s boring, and most of the machines are aimed at building up your arms which women don’t want. Bellydancing works your legs, bottom, tummy and waist which is what matters to us.
Not everyone wants to lose weight, but what Chloe has particularly noticed is that most women feel better about their bodies as a result of bellydancing.
This is probably the most satisfying thing for me says Chloe. The classes help women to see that they are really beautiful, no matter what shape, size or age they are. Bellydancing celebrates the female body in all its forms and women realise they don’t have to be stick-thin to be lovely.
